ABOUT ME: The PG Version

This is always so awkward. I never know what to say in these things

without with coming off as callous with my dry sense of humor or

getting way too deep way too fast. And by deep I mean profound and poetic

...not the other thing (perv).

See, my passion for writing began at the wee age of eight years old. After years of being deathly shy, words finally escaped me in the form of a poem. Apparently I was pretty good, because I got published in a youth lit journal and was invited to Austin, TX for a youth poetry summit.

Being born and raised in Houston, Austin wasn't too far, but it was still a pretty cool adventure. I love adventures, which is why packing up and moving to Miami after college with Teach For America seemed only natural. So far, teaching has been an amazing (albeit sometimes incredibly challenging) ride, and the experience has only sharpened my ability to solve problems and persevere, while doing so with vigor and enthusiasm.

Teaching English Language Arts has honed my love and belief in writing even more. I may have started as just a poet, but throughout the years, I've dedicated myself to learning as many forms of writing as I can because I see writing as a means of connecting with and impacting others.

Learning and personal growth fill my pages; so I will never stop improving and expanding my skills

as a writer nor will I ever cease to love the journey with every stroke of the pen

...that wasn't just an expression--I actually do still write by hand.
